An American is now preparing for his graduate entrance exam in Chinese medicine studies. After studying for two years, Chinese medicine has become his lifelong interest.

26 year-old Steven comes from the United States. He is now learning Chinese medicine in Beijing. So devoted is he to his course of study that he named himself Huang Zhengwu, after Chinese medicinal materials.

Huang first became a believer in the magic of Chinese medicine after a successful treatment when he was 18 years old. 6 years later, he decided to learn the magic for himself in China.

Language is the first challenge he faced. A professional glossary of Chinese medicine is hard to learn even for a Chinese native speaker, much less a foreigner who knows no Chinese. However, for Huang, this challenge is also an opportunity.

Huang said, I knew nothing about the language when I first came here. But the first word I learned was from Chinese medicine. It's an opportunity for me.

Practicing Chinese medicine is another challenge for him, like acupuncture. To needle into the correct acupoint, Huang kept on practicing on himself. And now, he is quite proficient.

It doesn't hurt at all.

Now, Huang spends over 12 hours a day studying Chinese medicine. He says, interest helps him carry on.

Huang said, If you are really into something, it won't seem hard and you will not feel bored at all.

Though Huang looks just like a normal foreigner, the world he views is totally different from others.

This is called the semen boitae, the seed of an oriental arborvitae. It can help with bowel movements.

In two weeks, Huang will participate in the post-graduate entrance examination with other Chinese students. Huang says his biggest dream is to open his own Chinese medicine clinic in the US, and turn his hobby to a lifelong career.
