From an ethereal bowl that's so light it can be held by a spider web, to a large sculpture in the shape of a dragon boat, all these can be seen at the China International Porcelain Expo being held in Jing De Zhen.

 

The capital of porcelain in China has a thousand year history of porcelain making. And some of the exhibits have established a new Gennius World Record.

The exquisitely sculpted dragon boat is one new world record holder. It is now the biggest carved porcelain dragon boat.

Measuring 2.26 meters long and nearly one meter high, the boat contains complicated Chinese pavilions, a hundred some mini-sized stone lions, and one hundred and fifty two characters from "A Dream of Red Mansions."

Ye Fei, staff member of Porcelain Expo, said, "The piece took seven years to complete. There was a long process from the concoction of the clay formula, to the carving, and a lot of experiments, before the whole piece was put into the burning furnace, because any piece will shrink by 15 percent of its original size. A normal piece needs twenty some hours in the fire. But this one takes sixty-nine hours. The fact that it was fired only once is a miracle."

Forming the stark contract with the dragon boat is this unbelievably thin bowl.

He Caiming, creator, said, "Normally a thin bowl just has an edge that's very thin, but this one is equally thin just about everywhere. You can see through it. And it weighs barely more than 10 grams."

The ultra thin bowl wowed spectators by standing on a spider web without harming the web even a little. Meanwhile, it's strong enough to be knocked onto a hard surface like glass without breaking.

Spectacles also include a huge jar that consumed two tons of clay, a screen with elaborately painted pictures, a three-and-a-half meter tall lamp, a huge bowl and a large plate. The expo also has some pieces using new technology on show.
