An antibiotic-resistant superbug has raised concerns worldwide over a possible widespread infection. But experts say for general members of the public in good health, outside hospitals, there is no risk. And in hospitals, just take basic precautions.

David Livermore, UK's Health Protection Agency, said, "While you are in hospitals, watch your doctors and nurses. Make sure that they wash their hands before they touch you. Clean in the community and hospitals is the best way of preventing most transmission of infection."

The detection of these dangerous super bacteria usually takes about 48 hours. Infection is limited to hospitals. Large-scale abuse of antibiotic treatment has enabled bacteria to thrive despite medication. The gene responsible for the superbug, known as NDM-1, makes bacteria resistant to antibiotics.
