In the past few days many parts of southern China have experienced their heaviest rainfall this year. 50 people have been killed so far.

The rain is still pounding most regions along the Yangtze River Basin including parts of Chongqing Municipality, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangxi and Anhui provinces. Forecasters say the rainstorms will continue until next Tuesday.

Chongqing has experienced the heaviest rainfall of this summer since Friday. 10 people have been killed and 3 are still missing in rainstorm related disasters. Almost a million people's lives have been affected in the municipality. In Wanzhou city, more than 12 thousand people were trapped as landslides and floods destroyed houses and roads. Chongqing disaster relief headquarters has started its emergency response mechanism. Rescuers are working around the clock to help trapped residents.

Floods have inundated many villages in Wuyuan, Jiangxi Province and many cities are suffering from inland flooding. Cars have been struggling in the water.

Landslides pushed earth and mud down from the nearby mountain and buried a construction material shop in Dexing. Residents have had to be relocated.

This round of rainstorms is the heaviest in the past ten years in Anhui Province. The downpours pushed water exceeding the warning level of almost 500 small and medium sized reservoirs across the province. Local government have been keeping a close watch on the rivers and reservoirs.

Railway services in southwest China resumed Saturday morning, more than one day after being disrupted by a rain-triggered landslide.

80 meters of the Sichuan-Guizhou railway line was buried in Tongzi County in Guizhou Province on Friday. 1,200 workers spent a day and a night clearing the 2,000 cubic meters of mud and rocks.
