There's a film coming to theatres that has a familiar title. It's the new action film "The Karate Kid," which had its premiere in L.A. on Monday night. The film's star, Jaden Smith, plays the lead role in this version of the 1984 film. At the premiere, actor Jackie Chan raised a topic that's pivotal to the story. He talked about bullies, and also made a surprising confession.

 

Smith's character, Dre, is bullied at his new school in China. He goes through the motions of learning from Mr. Han, played by Jackie Chan. Chan plays the handyman in the building where Dre lives with his mother.

Functioning in the famous Mr. Miyagi role is Jackie Chan legendary martial arts star, humanitarian, and real-life hero to millions. But his fans might be surprised to find out that Chan was actually a bully himself in his younger days.

Jackie Chan, Actor, said, "I bullied somebody. This is why, I was a very naughty boy, so my father dumped me in the martial arts school. After I learned martial arts, then I realized that when you have strength, you have to help people. Not bully somebody. So this why I do so many charities. The more you have strength, you have to help people."

The plot of the remake changes locations. Instead of moving from New Jersey to Los Angeles because of his single mom's new job, Dre moves from Detroit to Beijing, where he promptly incurs the wrath of the local thugs and learns martial arts to protect himself.

"The Karate Kid" opens in theaters across the United States on Friday.
