Dong Ying is located around the mouth of the Yellow River. The city's 350-km coastline borders the Laizhou Bay and the Bohai Bay to the east and north respectively. The city was established in 1983, as a base for developing the Yellow River Delta and China's second largest oilfield, Shengli Field.
