Chinese Premier, Wen Jiabao, addressed the 12th China-ASEAN Summit in the Thai resort of Hua Hin.

He outlined a six-point proposal aimed at strengthening cooperation between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

Premier Wen said that as a result of timely government intervention, the financial situation in China and ASEAN countries has remained essentially stable throughout the global financial crisis.

He said that trade between the two sides is now entering a stage of restorative growth.

The Chinese premier proposed that steps be taken to enhance cooperation between China and ASEAN countries in the following ways:

First, the role of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area should be emphasized.

Second, efforts should be made to accelerate the construction of infrastructure facilities.

Third, efforts should be made to deepen agricultural and rural cooperation.

Fourth, steps should be taken to promote sustainable development.

Fifth, efforts should be made to strengthen social and cultural exchanges.

And sixth, regional cooperation at various levels should be promoted.

Premier Wen Jiabao also attended the 12th Summit between ASEAN and China, Japan and South Korea.

He urged that the recovery of the regional economy be given priority, and suggested that various stimulus policies be maintained.

Premier Wen Jiabao also suggested that financial cooperation be broadened, and regional trade and investment increased.

He added that all countries under the 10-plus-three mechanism should improve communications to promote common development and enhance overall competitiveness.

Premier Wen also met with his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh on the sidelines of the ASEAN-related summits.

The two leaders agreed to gradually narrow differences on border issues between the two countries.

They agreed to work toward ensuring peace and stability in the border area, saying it would be conducive to resolving border issues and furthering bilateral cooperation.
