David and Lynn have rented a small house here with no electricity. The drinking water has to be fetched from a well. They cook their food over a wood fire, and the toilet is about a hundred meters down the road.

Lynn is very enthusiastic about the project and enjoys working with the community at Monkey Point.

Lynn Schneider, a blue energy volunteer, said "I wanted to get the experience of really grass roots sustainable development, something at the community level. Being on the ground and really working in it."

The couple have installed a solar panel to provide the house with power. A priority of their stay is to show the people at Monkey Point how to produce renewable energy.

The project at Monkey Point is mainly focused on manufacturing wind turbines to maintain local jobs and putting money into the local economy.

For the first time, the village's only school has been electrified, improving the children's education and providing the entire community with a meeting place.

Since the 1990s, ecotourism has been growing at between twenty and thirty-four per cent each year... three times faster than traditional tourism.
