Qingdao is widely known for having hosted the sailing events for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The Olympic Sailing Museum?(奧帆博物館)?illustrates both Qingdao's rich maritime history and the current and future aspirations of the city.

The development of Qingdao's seafaring history can be dated back as early as the beginning of Langya Port before the start of the Tang Dynasty (618-907).

In the early 20th century, Qingdao became the first city in China to hold sailing events. With this rich background, Qingdao has played an important role in the development of Chinese sailing sports.

With an area of more than 9,000 square meters and the blue sea as its backdrop, the museum has exhibition halls, interactive teaching areas and public service zones.

As a modern museum combining history, culture, sport and social science, the Olympic Sailing Museum has a wide range of collections and legacies from both the Olympic Games and the Olympic Sailing Competition.

Among them are the sailboards used by Olympic champion Yin Jian in the 2008 Sailing Competition, Fou drums, bamboo scrollss, and costumes used at the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics.

The museum also notes the city's achievement in helping win the Chinese mainland's first gold medal in sailing.

Thanks to the regattas held in Qingdao, sports sailing is gaining increasing prominence and coverage throughout the country.

Qingdao has effectively rebranded itself the "Sailing City of China."
