United Kingdom, home to the first ever World Expo in 1851, is presenting to the world another dazzling structure in Shanghai World Expo this year. One of the most eye-catching buildings on the expo grounds, the Seed Cathedral is celebrating the UK national pavilion day on Wednesday.

 

People call it a hedgehog, or a dandelion, the UK pavilion is one of the most queued and visited buildings here.

Upon entering, visitors are surrounded by the seeds in a 20-meter-high hollow structure with seeds embedded in the walls and ceilings.

Themed "Building on the past, Shaping our future", the dazzling cube is formed by more than 60,000 slim and transparent acrylic rods containing seeds of different plants that were collected in a bio-diversity project.

The seeds demonstrate the concept of sustainability, the diversity of nature and the potential of life.

The UK pavilion hopes to raise awareness for the Millennium Seed Bank Project, an international conservation project launched by the Royal Botanic Gardens in 2000.

The Plant Research Institute based in southwest China's Yunnan province is a partner in the project, and the provider of all 890 seeds in the themed exhibition.

In the Green Cities section, visitors travel through four UK's capital cities from west to east. Large "green maps" shows how green British cities really are.

Seed Cathedral is UK's interpretation of Better City, Better Life, theme of this year's World Expo. And it will be remembered for its valuable and forward notion, just as the country's features of Tower Bridge, Big Ben, River Thames, reserved and precise people.
