Leshan City, Sichuan Province held a tourism promotion meeting in Bangkok on August 29 with 100 major local tourism companies, the Thailand National Tourism Administration, and a number of organizations such as the Asia-Pacific Tourism Association.

Leshan, with its unique natural landscape, gourmet food and Buddhist culture, is a major tourist city in China, said Zhang Xinhong, Director of the Representative Office of the National Tourism Administration of China in Bangkok, hoping more Thai people come to know the city.

Situated in southern Sichuan, hometown of giant pandas, Leshan boasts fascinating natural sceneries and splendid cultural heritages left by?a history of more than 3000 years. It is home to the world's largest sitting Buddha, the Leshan Grand Buddha, a World Natural and Cultural Heritage site.

The city registered close to 40 million tourist arrivals from both China and other countries each year.

In recent years, exchanges and cooperation between Leshan and Thailand has been booming.

In 2013, Leshan and Prachuap Khiri Khan became sister cities and the two have been mutually promoting tourist routes, sharing resources and organizing tour groups to each other ever since. Last July, the Thailand National Tourism Administration and the Thailand Tourism Association sent big delegations to attend the Sichuan International Travel Expo in Leshan.
