Located about 2 km northwest of Anyang City, the Yinxu site was where the capital of the late Shang Dynasty between 1300 BC and 1046 BC was located, as recorded in documents and verified by archaeological excavations.

Yinxu is the most important archaeological discovery in China in the 20th century. It is the source of Chinese oracle bone inscriptions and Simuwu Ding -- the biggest bronze vessel unearthed up to now in the world. The discovery of these ruins has also reaffirmed the history of Shang Dynasty, which was recorded in other traditional documents. The discovery has changed the framework of the early history of ancient China.

The tomb of China's first female general, Fuhao, the wife of a Shang Dynasty emperor, was also discovered in the ruins.[China.org.cn]
