Basha Miao Village, Hunan Province

Basha in Miao language means full of vegetation. Located about five kilometers to the north of Congjiang county, Guizhou Province, Basha Miao village is home to more than 300 Miao households. The village is located on the mountain lap and surrounded by woods. Due to its closed environment, Basha Miao people hardly have contact with the outside world. They still keep their own language and unique old life style. For example, they are known as China's last "tribal guns"; the men wear a hairstyle which has existed for thousands of years; the villagers usually wear blue home-made clothes and the women often wear batik garments.
