Mount Qomolangma, whose name means "Goddess" in the Tibetan language, is the world's highest peak, at 8,848 meters high. It is located in the western part of Shigatse Prefecture. Its year-round snowy peak gives it a holy look. Known as the Earth's third pole, the Mount Qomolangma region has four mountains higher than 8,000 meters and 38 mountains higher than 7,000 meters.

Watching brook floods everyday

There are two giant glaciers north of Mount Qomolangma. At 15 kilometers long, the two giant glaciers extend into the valley like two silver dragons. After only a short walk on the glaciers, rows of 20- to 30-meter-high ice towers come into sight. Some are like glazed towers, some are like crystal palaces. Under the ice towers, a natural lake forms a skating rink. The ice towers and lake together contribute to the charming natural scenery.

As the ice melts in summer, melting scenery can be seen everywhere in the 10-kilometer range, from the tail of the glacier to the basin, which accumulates snow to form glaciers. Under Mount Qomolangma, the sound of avalanches and rolling stones roars from time to time.

In the morning, a clear brook flows slowly under the ice; however, at dusk, the brook floods. The water becomes muddy and splashes in waves, forming a really rare spectacle.

Admiring snow in the "rainy season"

June to September is the rainy season in the Himalayas. During that period, the monsoon from the Indian Ocean invades the whole mountain area, resulting in changeable weather. December to March is the typhoon season, when the west wind is great and the weather is fine, but very dry. The difference between the windy season and rainy season is extremely clear, while the transition between them is very short. However, the short transition season is the best choice for mountaineering expeditions.

In fact, in the Mount Qomolangma region, it has never rained in the rainy season - even on the warmest days, it still snows. After several snowfalls, the mountain becomes white. But when winter is coming, the wind sweeps away the snow so that rocks are exposed. So tourists can recognize summer from the sight of the white mountains.

Wandering in a sea of clouds

In summer, the change in the clouds around Mount Qomolangma is most striking. Overlooking the top of the mountains, mountain peaks loom like islands in a sea of clouds. Even if you've seen movie scenes of gods descending to earth, it is still hard to imagine that there is such paradise on earth. The scenery of Mount Qomolangma is more magnificent than special effects.

Sending a postcard from Mount Qomoloangma

Tourists can buy a postcard in the Mount Qomolangma base camp for 2 yuan. The postcard is mailed with a Mount Qomolangma postmark, making it truly monumental to send or receive.
