Burang County in northern Tibet's Ngari Prefecture is the home to Mt. Kangrinboqe and the Mapham Yutso Lake.

 Towering an altitude of 6,656 m above sea level, Mt. Kangrinboqe, the main peak of the Kangdese Mountain Range, is called "the mountain of divine being" by locals.

About 20 km southeast of the mountain lies the 412-sq-km Mapham Yutso Lake, the world's highest freshwater lake and also regarded as one of Tibet's three major holy lakes.

As a holy place for believers in the Bon religion, Buddhism, Hinduism and Jainism, as well as a famous scenic spot in Ngari, the mountain and lake have been included in the key national wetland reserve item, with China's central Government allocating a large amount of funds annually to protect ecological environment.
