With more than 30 years of experience in financial and executive management, Ma Xuezheng is one of the most respected business women in China. In 1990, Ma left the Chinese Academy of Sciences and began her career at Lenovo Group Ltd. (formerly, Legend Group Ltd.) In 1997, she became executive director of the group, and served as senior vice-president and chief financial officer of Lenovo until May 23, 2007. Lenovo completed the purchase of IBM's PC unit under her management.

From September 2003 to April 2007, Ma also served as an independent non- executive director of Sohu.com Inc. Following this, in September 2007, Ma joined TPG Capital as a partner and managing director. In March 2011, Ma left TPG and co-founded Boyu Capital Consultancy Co., Ltd. with Zhang Zixin, former president of Ping An Insurance Group. Boyu has received investment from Li Ka-shing.
