Bayern Munich restored its four-point lead atop the Bundesliga table after Leroy Sane's brace paved the way for a 5-0 win over Hoffenheim in the 17th round on Wednesday.

The Bavarians opened the scoring seven minutes into the match when Thomas Muller exchanged passes with Sane, who slotted into the bottom left corner.

Hoffenheim was caught flat-footed, and Bayern doubled its lead five minutes later when Harry Kane picked out Raphael Guerreiro, whose well-placed shot from eight meters found the back of the net.

Kane then added his name to the scoresheet in the 26th minute, converting a penalty for his 27th straight goal from the spot.

The German record champions continued where they left off after the break, as Sane was left unmarked at the far post to fire home Mathys Tel's in-swinging cross three minutes into the second half.

Bayern was not done, with substitute Serge Gnabry pouncing on a poor clearance to make it 5-0 in the 66th minute.

The victory keeps Bayern four points clear of second-placed Leverkusen, while Hoffenheim slips to 16th.

"I'm happy with the performance. We played well. We must keep going," said Bayern coach Vincent Kompany.

Elsewhere, fourth-placed Leipzig fell 2-1 to Stuttgart despite taking an early lead. Bottom-dwelling Bochum upset St. Pauli 1-0. Alexis Claude-Maurice netted twice as Augsburg downed Union Berlin 2-0. Heidenheim and Werder Bremen played to a thrilling 3-3 draw.
