Real Madrid won away to newly promoted Elche in controversial circumstances in their BBVA Primera Liga game on Wednesday night.

Madrid had looked to be on their way to victory against a tough and well-organized Elche when Cristiano Ronaldo finally opened the scoring six minutes into the second half.

Referee Muniz Fernandez had decreed four minutes of injury time when Elche scored a goal in the 92nd minute thanks to Yiadom Boakye, but after adding what looked like an excessive amount of time for Elche's celebrations, Fernandez then awarded Madrid a penalty after 95 minutes after what looked like an equal challenge between Elche defender Carlos Sanchez and Madrid's Pepe.

Amid general protests from the Elche team, Ronaldo made no mistake from the penalty spot and after the referee had blown the final whistle he also sent off the Elche coach and his assistant for their protests.

Elche were already angry given that they had felt that the foul which led to Ronaldo's first goal had never existed, while Muniz also let Ramos off a challenge which would have earned many other players their second yellow card of the match.

"We are leaving the pitch with the feeling we have been robbed," said Elche captain, Edu Alcabar at the final whistle.

The day kicked off with two dramatic games as the bottom two went head to head in the Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium in Seville.

Two goals from Sevilla Igor Rakitic and Carlos Bacca put Sevilla on the way to a 4-1 home win against Rayo Vallecano, who had given themselves a chance through Adrian Gonzalez. Rayo ended the game with nine players after referee Mateu Lajoz sent off Joanthan Viera and Alejandro Galvez in the second half with the game still in the balance.

Valencia had suffered a traumatic 24 hours after the decision to suspend central defender Adil Rami after a controversial radio interview. Their game in Granada looked set for a 0-0 draw until Jonas Gonclaves scored a 93rd minute winner to take the pressure off coach Miroslav Djukic.

Tuesday saw FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid both win to ensure that two teams have won their first six matches of the season for the first time in the history of the BBVA Primera Liga.
