Gerardo Daniel Tata Martino talks during a press conference to present him as the new head coach of Barcelona FC on July 23, 2013 in Rosario, Argentina.

FC Barcelona officially confirmed that Argentinean Gerardo 'Tata' Martino will be the club's first team coach for the next two years.

The news that the former Paraguay and Newell's Old Boys coach would replace Tito Vilanova at the Camp Nou broke on Monday night with the entire Spanish media announcing the club's decision to make Martino their new coach, but it was not until the following morning that the news actually was actually made official on the club's website, which adds that the date of Martino's journey to Spain and his official presentation will be announced in the coming hours.

The club highlights that the 50-year-old, who made over 500 appearances for Newell's as a player and led the club to triumph in the recent Torneo Clausura, is a lover of attacking football and that his tactics will not differ greatly from those of Vilanova and his predecessor, Pep Guardiola.

"All of his teams have been very competitive. The Argentinian manager is also known for making his men pressure high up the pitch and having confidence in the players who come up from youth systems," highlights the official Barca website.

Meanwhile Martino's arrival has been given the approval of Barca's Spain international, Andres Iniesta, who was asked about the new coach as he appeared at the presentation of the soon to be released 'Smurfs 2' film in Spain.

"If the club has decided that he is to be the one, then he is the ideal coach and we have to try and make it possible for him to be happy in his work. We have the highest hopes possible and we have to try and reach next June with our desire to win things intact."

"The club would not decide to sign a coach who would not fit in as they have clear ideas about what they want and that is a good combination. We have to start every season with the hope of winning titles," said Iniesta.

Elsewhere in Spain, Sevilla have signed PSG striker, Kevin Gameiro for around 10 million euros. Gameiro will replace Alvaro Negredo, who was recently sold to Manchester City. Meanwhile Betis have sealed a loan deal to sign former Espanyol left back Didac Vila on loan from AC Milan for the coming season.

Meanwhile Real Madrid striker, Gonzalo Higuain is on the verge of closing a move to Naples after the clubs reached agreement over a fee. The striker now has to work out his personal terms with the Italian side.
