Real Madrid striker Cristiano Ronaldo says he would be happy to stay at the Spanish club for the rest of his career.

Ronaldo was speaking in the early hours of Tuesday morning to Spanish radio station 'Cadena Cope', in the wake of rumors that English club Manchester City was willing to pay him a salary of around 400,000 euros a week.

The striker insisted that he had come to Real Madrid for more than money. "I chose Real Madrid for a reason, money isn't the most important thing in life. I could earn twice as much, but the treatment I have here is incredible. I would sign on for another 10 years until the end of my career," said Ronaldo.

"Things can always happen in life, but the way things are at the moment, I would be happy to stay," he added, before giving his word that he would not join Manchester City.

"I am happy here and I feel valued, if they offered me the chance to renew my contract I would do," said Ronaldo.

Ronaldo has been at Madrid for two seasons since his record breaking move from Manchester United, but in those two years all he and his team-mates have won is this season's Copa del Rey. Meanwhile Barcelona have won the last two league titles and this season also knocked Madrid out of the Champions League.

"People remember who wins. They played better and they didn't win through luck, they won because they were the better side," said Ronaldo, who admitted his was frustrated at the lack of silverware.

"We have the potential to win more than the Cup. We have a side to win the Champions League and La Liga, we can't lament disappointments or blame referees. I am certain that the second season (with Jose Mourinho as coach) will be better," he said, adding that the Champions League was the main obsession and that should Madrid win a historic tenth European Cup, the city would come to a standstill.
