Chinese lifters won all the weightlifting gold medals on offer for the second consecutive day at the Guangzhou Asian Games.

Defending champion Li Ping of China shocked Asia as she broke two world records to win the women's 53kg class, while her compatriot Zhang Jie claimed the title of men's 62kg by overcoming Kim Un Guk of DPR Korea.

"The snatch world record is a surprise to me as I am not good at it, but breaking the total world record is in our plan," said Li after becoming the first athlete at the Guangzhou Asiad to thrash world record.

With only 10 lifters participating, Li met few challenges as she raised 103kg in the snatch, one kilogram more than the previous word record set by DPR Korea's Ri Song Hui in 2002.

Li continued her momentum by jerking 127kg to secure the gold medal with a total of 230kg, 4kg more than the previous world record set by China's Qiu Hongxia in 2006.

Chinshanlo Zulfiya of Kazakhstan gained the silver at 219kg, while Jaroenrattanatarakoon P. of Thailand, Beijing Olympic gold medalist, collected the bronze at 215kg.

Zhang survived a more tough competition earlier in the men's 62kg, facing the newly-world champion Kim and Indonesia's famous lifter Irawan Eko Yuli.

Zhang lost to Kim in last month's world championships as he hoisted a total of 315kg, 5kg less than Kim.

However, one month later in Guangzhou, the 23-year-old took revenge with a winning total of 321kg, beating Kim to the second place at 317kg.

"Last time in Turkey's worlds, I lost to Kim as I was injured before the competition, but this time I didn't miss the chance to beat him," said Zhang.

"The success at the Guangzhou Asiad will increase Zhang's experience in preparation for the London Olympics," said Chen Wenbin, head coach of Chinese men's weightlifting team.

"Because in this category, the level of Asia's competition is the same as the Olympics," added Chen.

The bronze medal was taken by Irawan Eko Yuli of Indonesia at 311kg.
