Twice Grand Prix Final champions Pang Qing/Tong Jian of China won the pairs gold medal at the Cup of China ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating 2010/2011 at the Capital Gymnasium on Saturday.

Gliding along with "Liebestraum", Pang/Tong withstood the force of home court pressure to score at 116.88 in free skating, adding up a final result of 177.50. This score assured their admission quality into this year's GP Final, which will also be staged here in Beijing on Dec. 5.

"We were not in a good shape actually, cause it had been too long for us to compete in the field since Olympic Games. We will try to adjust our form later," said Tong.

The Chinese teenage duo Sui Wenjing/Han Cong snapped a clean throw quad salchow to gain a seasonal best 111.89 points in free skating, pocketing their first senior medals at 171.47 points, followed by Caitlin Yankowskas/John Coughlin of United States.

Kozuka Takahiko of Japan grasped a personal best of 156.11 in free skating, making a total best of 233.51 points to win the men's single figure skating contest. It's the first time since Kozuka's last show at the Vancouver Olympic Games where he finished at the eighth in men's group.

"I haven't got the gold medal for a long time. Though It's a little pity that I touched the ice at my quad toeloop," stated Kozuka who skated to Piano Concerto No.1 by Franz Liszt, staging as the last men's single skater.

America's Brandon Mroz ended up with 216.80 to win his first senior medal, leaving Tomas Verner about two points behind.

Ando Miki, the GP Final champion, earn a total grade of 172.21 to crown the ladies catagory, edging her compatriot Suzuki Akiko who ranked second ahead of Russia's Alena Leonova. America's Nagasu Mirai, who fell at her triple flip, slipping from the leading position to the fourth place.

"I'm a little bit nervous today, but it's comfortable to skate in China, (because) the audience was very nice," said Ando.

"But (for now) I didn't have enough speed, also the footwork and spins (were not good enough), so I will work on to make sure I can get level-4 for next competition in Russia. "

France duo Nathalie Pechalat/Fabian Bourzat clinched their seasonal best 159.59 points to claim the title in ice dance, fending off their Russia and Italy rivals.

Italian dancer Federica Faiella/Massimo Scali, scoring 139.52 for the third place, caught bad luck in free dance on their custome like they did in the short program. Scali tripped over Faiella's long skirt during their lift that both of them fell to the ground.

"It's unbelievable! I mean, twice? We can get a special award," said Scali while waiting for their score.
