The heavy rains in the city of Salvador impeded Flamengo and Vitoria from playing a technically efficient match on Saturday in the second round of the Brazilian Championship. Sloshing through the water-logged field, the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Flamengo scored the game's first goal in the 3rd minute when Adriano crossed the ball from the left side of the field to Vagner Love who beat Vitoria's goalkeeper to the ball, redirecting it with his stomach to score.

As the rain continued steadily throughout the match, opportunities were lost as passes, set plays and strategy was thrown out the window. Vitoria was able to tie the match in the 85th minute when Elkson fired a stopped ball through the Flamengo defensive wall and past goalkeeper Bruno.

"The field made today's game difficult. There was no way to pass the ball with accuracy. Vitoria had a great play off a stopped ball and ended the match happy. Due to the poor weather, we are also happy with the draw," said Adriano.

Adriano added that due to his absence from the national team's list of players to represent Brazil in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, he considers the Libertadores Cup as his personal version of the World Cup.

Led by Adriano, Flamengo will travel to play the return leg of the quarterfinals match against the Chilean team Universidad de Chile on May 20.

Vitoria will face Atletico-GO in the semifinals of the Brazilian Cup on May 19. After their respective matches, both teams will return to play in the Brazilian Championship on May 23.

In the third round, Flamengo plays host to Gremio Prudente while Vitoria travels to play Ceara.
