Manchester City proved that their big spending of the last transfer window was worthy by beating Arsenal 4-2 at home on Saturday.

The Gunners played confidently under the charge of captain Francesc Fabregas. French defender William Gallas almost put the visitors ahead after 14 minutes with a powerful header over the bar.

However, Man. City should thank the fortunes as Micah Richards'header was deflected in by Arsenal keeper Manuel Almunia in the 20th minutes.

Almunia stretched hard to hold back Richards' header, but the ball bounced off his own head into the net after hitting the post.

The hosts dominated the match after taking lead but the Gunners fired back vehemently in the second half.

Arsenal turned up the tempo and kept possession, Dutch international Robin Van Persie's low shot after 62 minutes put the two teams into a tie.
