China's performance at previous Paralympics

Host China will make its seventh appearance at the Paralympic Games when the 13th edition of the quadrennial sporting event for disabled athletes opens on Saturday.

In its previous six Paralympics outings, China bagged a total of 143 gold medals, 118 silver medals and 84 bronze medals.

Following are the historical results.

Seventh Paralympics -- Stoke Mandeville, Britain & New York, United States, 1984

China made its debut at the Paralympics and Ping Yali won the country's first ever Paralympic gold medal when she triumphed in the B2 long jump.

China grabbed two golds, 13 silvers and 9 bronzes to rank 23rd in the gold medals tally. Nine Chinese athletes broke world records.

Eighth Paralympics -- Seoul, South Korea, 1988

A total of 43 Chinese athletes competed in four sports - athletics, swimming, table tennis and shooting.

China won 17 golds, 17 silvers and 10 bronzes to finish 14th in the gold medals tally. Eleven athletes broke world records.

Ninth Paralympics -- Barcelona, Spain, 1992

The 34-athlete Chinese delegation grabbed 11 golds, 7 silvers and 7 bronzes to finish 12th in the gold medals tally. They renewed seven world records.

Tenth Paralympics -- Atlanta, United States, 1996

China finished ninth in the gold medals tally with a haul of 16 golds, 13 silvers and 10 bronzes. Eleven world records fell at hands of Chinese athletes.

Eleventh Paralympcs -- Sydney, Australia, 2000

China fielded 87 athletes and garnered 34 golds, 22 silvers and 17 bronzes to rank sixth in the gold medals tally. Twenty five world records were broken by Chinese athletes.

Twelfth Paralympics -- Athens, Greece, 2004

China sent 200 athletes to compete in 11 sports. They won 63 golds, 46 silvers and 32 bronzes to top both the medals table and gold medals tally.

Thirteenth Paralympics -- Beijing, China, 2008

China fielded its largest ever delegation of 547 members, including 332 athletes, to compete in all the 20 sports.
