In the meantime, China has provided technological, financial and other support, becoming part of the material assets that boost APEC's development. China has always advocated economic and technological cooperation, hoping that developed countries will provide technological assistance to developing countries to help the latter overcome bottlenecks in their economic development. China also allocated funds several times to help APEC members to carry out economic and technological cooperation, in order to help the less developed members to grow. For example, China carried out a human resource capacity building program in 2001 which provided free training to 1500 Internet technology talents from APEC member economies in three years. The Chinese government set up the APEC Finance and Development Program to help the member economies to train financial professionals. China also pledged to build the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank in order to meet the huge demand of capital in infrastructure construction and boost the connectivity in the Asia-Pacific region.

China hosted the APEC Economic Leaders' Meetings in Shanghai in 2001. It proposed the Shanghai Accord to work toward the Bogor Goals. Thirteen years later, China is hosting APEC in Beijing. Looking at the three topics of the meeting, China is geared up to advance APEC to a more practical dimension.

First, in terms of boosting Asia-Pacific economic integration, China is attempting to integrate the free trade agreements within the region and put forward a proposal to start the FTAAP (Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific) process.

Second, regarding innovation, reform and economic growth, China has come up with a number of initiatives to drive economic growth in the region by means of economic reform, a new type of economy, innovation-driven growth, inclusive support, and urbanization.

As to connectivity, China proposed the APEC interconnectivity blueprint in order to meet the demand of capital for infrastructure construction in the region.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the formation of APEC, as well as the 20th anniversary of the Bogor Goals. The themes and agenda China set for this year's APEC fully demonstrate its intensive attention and profound contribution to the organization, as well as its willingness to work with the other member economies to develop APEC in the next 25 years.
