Chinese President Hu Jintao (L) and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin review the guards of honor during a welcoming ceremony in Beijing, capital of China, June 5, 2012.

Russia-China cooperation on many issues has reached a high level and has facilitated the resolution of international and regional crises in a most effective way, said Russian President Vladimir Putin in Beijing on Tuesday.

Currently on a state visit to China, Putin and his Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao on Tuesday afternoon held talks, signed a joint declaration on further deepening bilateral ties, attended signing ceremonies of a series of cooperative papers before holding a joint press conference.

When meeting with reporters, Putin hailed China as Russia's strategic partner, saying the two countries have maintained an open, trustworthy and mutually beneficial relationship in all sectors.

The two countries highly trust each other in the political field, support each other on issues concerning respective core interests, while keeping bilateral economic ties ever advancing, said Putin.

"We signed several documents on important cooperative fields, including energy, industry, banking, aviation and innovative manufacturing," he said.

"In 2011, bilateral trade volume surged 40 percent. I am fully confident in what President Hu has said, that bilateral trade will reach a new level between 2015 and 2020," he said.

Russia and China will continue to diversify bilateral trade, intensify mutual investment, initiate new programs on infrastructure and high technology, and increase exchanges between regions and enterprises, said Putin.

"All of our consensuses will be carried out. In the energy sector, including oil and gas, nuclear power, electric power and renewable energy sources, our cooperation has yielded significant results," he said.

According to Putin, the two countries are in discussions over expediting the research on jointly manufacturing long-range, wide-bodied aircraft and heavy-lift helicopter, while continuing a cooperative program on the aviation sector and starting programs on other key technological sectors.

"We absolutely welcome Chinese enterprises to participate in projects of Russian technology park, economic zone and environmental research," said Putin.

"We would also like to strengthen local cooperation and further promote the implementation of the outline of regional cooperation between northeast China and the Russian Far East Area and Eastern Siberia," said the Russian top leader.

Cultural cooperation between Russia and China has been continuously improved, said Putin, adding that both countries have successfully hosted National Years and Years of Languages, while initiating a promising project of the reciprocal Year of Tourism.

"I hope experts from both sides can make fresh proposals to deepen people-to-people exchanges of the two countries," he said.

"We attach great importance on boosting interactions between young people and students. There are some 18,000 Chinese students in Russia and 8,000 Russian students in China," he said.

The two leaders also exchanged views on international and regional issues, said Putin. "Russia and China have consistently urged the establishment of a fair global order and the collective tackling of crisis of all nations," he said.

"In order to counter threats such as terrorism, extremism, extensive economic crisis and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, we would like to reinforce cooperation within multilateral mechanisms such as the United Nations, G20, BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO)," said Putin.

"We will conduct effective collaboration in various multilateral mechanisms of the Asia-Pacific region," he said, adding that both sides underscore the common proposal on improving Asia-Pacific security.

"Of course we will also maintain military interactions in this regard," he said. Both Russia and China have proposed to create an open and fair security cooperative framework in the region, which will be based on international laws and principles, he said.

Putin also exchanged views with Hu thoroughly on situations in West Asia, North Africa and the Korean Peninsula as well as on the Iranian nuclear issue.

"Russia and China will step up partnership to benefit the two peoples. Our partnership has become an example of genuine good neighborhood and friendship," he said.

During his first visit to China as Russian President for a third term, Putin will also attend the 12th meeting of the Council of Heads of Member States of the SCO scheduled to be held in Beijing from Wednesday to Thursday.
