About thirty reporters reached the world's highest peak on Monday. They're the first group of people from the media to reach the Mt. Qomolangma media center to cover the ascent of the Beijing Olympic flame.
The media center was built at an altitude of 5,200 meters and was completed on the April 2nd. The first group of people from the media include 19 Chinese journalists, and 11 foreign reporters, who are from seven international media organizations, including Reuters, BBC, and CNN.
A broadcasting team from CCTV has already set up their equipment. They've also rehearsed four times to ensure that their audiences worldwide will get the clearest possible live coverage of the Olympic torch relay.
The center also hired a group of chefs from Lhasa's best restaurants. A selection of Chinese food, Tibetan food and many kinds of western food are available.
One Reuters reporter said "I'm very impressed with the food, it's very hot very fresh. And there is a nice choice of egg, beams, meat and fish. I'm just very impressed that in the middle of no where. This have been in the 5200 meters. "
It is the first time that an Olympic flame will reach the world's highest peak. Like the media center, the exact time for when history will be made is still up in the air.
