Although the term was originally created to describe the complicated cosmological model of the creation of the universe, "Big Bang" has in recent years more often been the nickname for the hugely popular comedy series "The Big Bang Theory" on CBS.

The show was headed into its fifth season by the end of Sep. 2011, but search queries on Youdao.com show that audiences are still fascinated with the sitcom storyline of four geeks and a blonde.

Despite a new "romantic" relationship starting in the fourth season, Sheldon Cooper (portrayed by Jim Parsons) remains one of the world's most popular comedy characters. Parsons has won two Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe for his performance in "The Big Bang Theory."

While some say the popularity of the "Big Bang" has waned as the show has aged, fans rejoiced when CBS assured them that the series would run for at least seven seasons until 2014.
