Talk about strange places for a wedding. How about a funeral home? That's exactly where Paulita and Tony Flores uttered their vows last December, USA Today reported.
But this case isn't rare, as across the United States funeral homes are attempting to change their identity from solely a place to mourn the dead to venues to celebrate weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, holiday parties and proms.
In a 2010 National Funeral Directors Association survey, almost 10 percent of the 627 funeral home owners said they owned or offered a community or family center in addition to traditional funeral facilities.
It is often less expensive; there is greater availability; and the settings -- inside and outside -- can be nothing short of wedding-picture perfect.
Although people may think it morbid to start a marriage in a place surrounded by sadness, it would be no different than doing it at a church where both caskets and newlyweds occupy the aisles throughout the year.
