Most Americans are expected to spend nearly 700 US dollars on Christmas this year.

That reflects an increase of nearly 13 percent in spending on gifts for the average US household. Holiday revenue is big deal to retailers. But consumers aren't putting a price on holiday spirit.

Nothing quite says the holidays like the house that decides to go all out with the decorations.

This home in Brooklyn, New York features a dizzying array of lights, Santas, trees and various holiday fare, and has been an annual tradition for many neighbors.

Doris Johnson, Chiristmas Enthusiast, said, "This just makes you feel so good, it kind of helps you feel the Christmas spirit."

Josue Santiago, Chiristmas Enthusiast, said, "It makes me feel like a child every time I come around here. I love the Christmas spirit and I like it."

The Christmas spirit can be costly. A survey by the National Retail Federation shows most Americans plan to spend nearly $690 on gifts, holiday decorations, cards and flowers this year, up slightly from 2009. There is a lot of activity leading up to Christmas.

Howard Davidowitz, of retail consulting and investment banking firm Davidowitz & Associates says spending on holiday parties and decorations is decidedly up over last year.

Howard Davidowitz, Chiarman of Davidowitz & Associates, said, "The hotel business is great, there is more reservations for parties, yes all of that is up. Companies are spending more, company earnings are up.Small decorative items, mainly for the kitchen, business is very good."

Those small decorative items can add up. The NRF survey says the average American will spend about $42 on decorations this year - but these home owners might argue, you can't put a price on holiday spirit.
