Professor Tom Kirkwood of Newcastle University has come up with a new theory for why women live longer than men, the Daily Mail reports. Men are simply more biologically "disposable". The controversial study shows that the female body is better at carrying out routine maintenance and keeping the body's cells alive. The aging process is caused by tiny faults throughout our body. As faults build up, the length of our lives is determined by how quickly our body is able to carry out running repairs. As the cells miss opportunities to repair themselves, our bodies gradually degrade until we eventually die.

據英國《每日郵報》報道，英國紐卡斯爾大學的教授湯姆?克伍德最新研究發(fā)現(xiàn)，女人壽命普遍比男人長，這是因為男人的身體在生物學上更像是“一次性用品”。這一頗具爭議的理論指出，女人的身體比男人更善于進行常規(guī)保養(yǎng)，保持細胞的自我修復和活力。壽命的長短是由身體出現(xiàn)的細微錯誤的多少決定的；隨著體內細微錯誤的累積，人體細胞的自我修復能力又決定了我們壽命的長短。因此，那些總是不能及時進行細胞修復的人，身體會逐漸衰老直至死亡。
