　　第一段：隨著大學(xué)畢業(yè)生就業(yè)壓力的增加,有人認(rèn)為大學(xué)應(yīng)該以學(xué)生將來的工作為導(dǎo)向(career-oriented)，應(yīng)根據(jù)就業(yè)教授學(xué)生實(shí)際知識(shí)和培養(yǎng)他們的實(shí)際技能(practical knowledge and skills)，而有些人不同意這種看法，他們認(rèn)為大學(xué)教育還有其他職能。我認(rèn)為大學(xué)教育除了要教學(xué)生知識(shí)和實(shí)際知識(shí)和技能之外，還有其他的職能和目的。大學(xué)教育應(yīng)該培養(yǎng)學(xué)生的綜合能力(cultivating students' overall abilities)。

　　第三段：有了實(shí)際知識(shí)和技能，學(xué)生也不一定就會(huì)有份好工作、好事業(yè)。全面發(fā)展的學(xué)生(overall-developed students)才能有更好的就業(yè)和發(fā)展前景。因此除了教授實(shí)際知識(shí)和技能外，大學(xué)教育還有其他的職能，培養(yǎng)學(xué)生的綜合能力。

　　A good command of practical knowledge and skills in the students' field of study doesn't necessarily guarantee a better future career.

　　Statistics show that only one-third of the most successful enterprisers majored in business and commercial science. Many of them spent their precious college years learning art, literature and philosophy, subjects which are unrelated to their current career and identity.

　　Universities should aim at cultivating students' overall abilities. Students with a healthy body, a healthy mentality, good communication skills, team-work spirit, creative, innovative ability or the ability for implementation can have a better future.
