Gu, Yueguo, M. A. (with Distinction, Lancaster University, UK), Ph.D. (Lancaster University, UK), is presently a research professor of linguistics, and head of the Contemporary Linguistics Department, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. He is also Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Beijing Foreign Studies University, and Executive Dean of the Institute of Online Education. His research interest includes pragmatics, discourse analysis, corpus linguistics, rhetoric, and online education. He has contributed 23 papers to international journals or book chapters, and 20 papers to national journals. He has co-authored 4 academic works, and edited 37 textbooks as well as two special issues of international journals.

He is co-editor-in-chief of the Journal of Contemporary Linguistics, and acts as advisory editor of the following international journals: the Journal of Pragmatics, Pragmatics, Text and Talk, Corpus Linguistics, and the Journal of Intercultural Communication. He was elected on the Five-Member Executive Committee of the International Pragmatics Association in 1999. He is a holder of honorary chair at the University of Nottingham, Lancaster University, Capital Normal University, Central China Normal University. He is a winner of several prizes, most notably the National Top Research Prize of Fok Ying Tung Education Foundation in 1993, a K. C. Wong Fellow of the British Academy in 1997, National Outstanding Post-Doctorate Research.
