Establishment of diplomatic relation

In the 1970s, China and the United States reopened their doors to each other. On December 16, 1978, the governments of two countries simultaneously announced the Joint Communiqué on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations Between the People's Republic of China and the United States of America. On January 1, 1979, the two nations officially established diplomatic relation at ambassadorial level.
