Opening new chapter of China-US dialogue
Adjust font size:

After President Obama came into office, the bilateral ties have developed in a steady and healthy manner. Against the backdrop of the global financial crisis and the volatile international situation, it is in the interests of the two peoples and helpful for peace, stability and prosperity of the Asia-Pacific region and the whole world that both countries further promote their cooperative level on various bilateral and global issues.

Zhang Xiaoqiang (L), vice minister of China's State Development and Reform Commission, and David Sandalow, assistant secretary of policy and international affairs at the Department of Energy of the United States, sign the energy and environment part of the bilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in Washinton D.C., capital of the United States, July 28, 2009. The dialogue mechanism provides an important platform for both sides to further expand their communication and cooperation.

China and the United States, as the world's biggest developing and developed countries, share broader common interests and a cooperation foundation, and thus shoulder more important common responsibilities amid the current financial crisis.

In the dialogue, both sides made a positive evaluation of the bilateral ties, underlined the role of close high-level contacts and exchanges, agreed to expand military exchanges at various levels, and encouraged cultural exchanges and cooperation.

The two sides also held a frank, in-depth exchange of views on neutralizing the impact of the international financial crisis, pushing for an early recovery of the world economy, coping with global climate change, developing clean and high-efficient energy, protecting environment, and ensuring energy security. Important results have been achieved on these issues.
