China, Czech Republic vow to promote bilateral relations

China and the Czech Republic vowed to make joint efforts to enhance bilateral relations in various spheres, when visiting Chinese State Councilor Hua Jianmin met with Czech Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek Monday.

 

Conveying cordial greetings from Chinese Primier Wen Jiabao to Topolanek, Hua said the Chinese government has attached great importance to its relations with the Czech Republic, which is among the first to establish diplomatic ties with China and has maintained traditional friendship with the people's republic.

 

He noted that recent years witnessed a strong momentum in the development of bilateral ties, as leaders of the two countries maintain close contact and exchanges and cooperation are growing vigorously in various fields.

 

Hua expressed China's willingness to further deepen mutual understanding, build up mutual trust, develop friendship and promote cooperation to elevate bilateral relations to a new height.

 

Topolanek spoke highly of Czech-China relations, saying his government attaches much importance to developing its relations of friendship and cooperation with China, and is willing to work together to promote win-win cooperation of mutual benefit in all aspects.

 

As the rotating presidency of the European Union (EU) next year, Topolanek said Prague will play a constructive role in promoting Sino-EU relationship.

 

Topolanek reiterated that the Czech Republic adheres to its one-China policy and respects China's policies on the Taiwan issue.

 

He also expressed his hope that Taiwan Straits and its surrounding areas could maintain peace and stability.

 

On the same day, the Chinese state councilor also held talks with Czech Deputy Prime Minister Alexandr Vondra on bilateral trade, protection of intellectual property and products quality. The two leaders agreed to continue deepening exchanges and cooperation on humanity and culture, sports, personnel and administrative management.

 

Hua arrived in Prague Sunday for an official visit at the invitation of Vondra.
