Melamine-tainted eggs exported from central China's Hubei Province to Hong Kong were an "individual case", a local official said Thursday.

The contaminated eggs sold to Hong Kong were from two Hubei-based producers, but the general quality of the province's eggs were good, Chen Hongsong, an official with Hubei provincial husbandry bureau, told reporters.

The two producers, Jingshan Pengchang Agriculture Products Co. and Jingzhou Shuanggang Poultry Breeding and Processing Co., have been suspended sales and exports after Hong Kong food quality supervisor detected excessive levels of melamine in their products.

Tests of 59 batches of egg products and 68 batches of feedstuff, after the exposure, met Hong Kong's restrictions on melamine, Chen said.

Officials were working to trace the source of melamine, according to Chen.
