Snapshots: members pay tribute to concluded session

The First Session of the 11th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) held its closing ceremony in Beijing on Friday, bringing the annual session to a successful end.

Holding cameras and other digital devices, a large crowd of tireless journalists gathered in front of the Great Hall of the People to capture the last moment of the members attending the annual session.

Han Shuli, Chairman of the Tibet Federation of Literature and Art Circles

"This conference was more open to the media. I think the reporters themselves can strongly feel the change."

"As a member attending last year's session, I have seen that the new members are more active. They represent a new and capable force for the future."

"I really appreciate the administrative reform announced Tuesday. Yet I personally think it is possible for the government to shake off seven or eight more ministries to make itself more efficient."

He also lambasted the currently debated proposal of investing 30 billion yuan to build a cultural city in honor of Confucius. He put it flatly, saying that he saw no need for such a project.

Zhang Hongming, counselor to the government of Shanghai Municipality

"From the three documents issued last year and the Premier Wen's government work report, we can see the government is more intent on advancing the subsidized housing program for low-and-middle-income groups. In Shanghai, the municipal government will provide housing for 400,000 families in 5 years. This is an unprecedented move. I am confident in the government's resolution. However, it entails long-term efforts."

Zhu Jun, anchor of CCTV

"It is a successful session because the bulk of it focused on how to address public concerns."

He also had high expectations for the up-coming Olympic Games. "Hosting the Olympic Games is a rare chance for the modern China to display itself. I want to be a volunteer in the event, but I know it is not possible for me to serve truly as a volunteer," the famous anchor said regretfully.

"I have bore witness to the significant progress made in the past years. It is an honor and also my responsibility to be a CPPCC member. I will try my best to fulfill my duty," he stated.
