Wen Leaves Ghana for Republic of Congo
Adjust font size:

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao left Accra on Monday for the Republic of Congo to continue his seven-African nation trip after ending his two-day official visit to the West African country Ghana.

Ghanaian President John Agyekum Kufuor saw Premier Wen off at the airport.

During his meeting with President Kufuor on Sunday evening, Wen said that "China attached great importance to the development of Sino-Ghanaian relationship and would like to develop full-round cooperation with Ghana based on equality, mutual trust and benefit."

He urged the two sides to make efforts in four aspects:

First, increasing exchange of high-level visits and giving each other support on significant issues concerning national interests.

Second, expanding cooperation in construction of infrastructure, telecommunication, textile, agriculture and fishery and developing economic cooperation and trade in various forms.

Thirdly, enhancing communication and cooperation in health, culture and education and tourism.

Last, enhancing cooperation in international affairs and defending interests of developing countries.

Wen said China, despite a developing country, would like to help African countries to the best of its ability.

He told Kufuor that China would send a medical team to Ghana, donate anti-Malaria medicines, help Ghana build a malaria treatment center and a primary school as well as help Ghana train personnel in various fields.

Kufuor said that the friendship between the two countries established and cultivated by their leadership of older generation has been widely accepted by both peoples and the two sides have developed cooperation in various fields.

Ghana welcomed more Chinese businesses to invest in Ghana, Kufuor said, adding that Wen's visit would definitely improve the bilateral relationship.

After the meeting, the two sides signed documents on cooperation in economic development and other fields and published a joint communiqué.

Wen visited Egypt before he came to Ghana. He will also visit Angola, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda.
