The Central Meteorological Station forecast moderate snow Wednesday night into Thursday.

The city experienced its first snowfall of the winter when 1 mm fell downtown Tuesday night. The most snow fell near the Fenghuangling Mountain to the northwest of the city. Between 8:00 a.m. Tuesday to 8:00 a.m. Wednesday 6 mm fell, the Beijing Meteorological Bureau said.

In response to the weather, the Beijing Municipal Administration Commission activated its code yellow plan to handle moderate snow removal and icy roads.

More than 7,500 sanitation workers and 2,211 vehicles had removed ice and snow in Beijing as of 6 a.m. Wednesday. There were no reported traffic problems. They are on standby for Thursday morning.

Central Henan Province also embraced its first snowfall this year. Average precipitation measured less than five millimeters.

The Henan Provincial Meteorological Observatory said light snow was expected in most areas in the province Wednesday night.
