Environment and safety highlight Fujitsu forum

Fujitsu China Forum 2008 will lift its curtain in Beijing on November 20.

Since inaugurated last year, the annual forum, covering an exhibition and a series of industrial symposia, has provided an ideal platform for showcasing leading-edge products and technologies of the Japan-based company.

With "green" and "safety" as this year's main themes, the forum will highlight eco-friendly and safety-enhanced technological solutions.

As climate change becomes a common concern, Fujitsu has launched a program called "Green Policy Innovation" in a bid to reduce 7 million tons of carbon dioxide between 2007 and 2010, the amount of carbon dioxide that 500 million fir trees absorb annually.

Through research and development of environmentally friendly and energy-saving products, the IT company is seeking to reduce its own carbon dioxide emission and help its customers ease their burden on the environment.

In addition to the environment, safety management is another concern that has gained growing attention in recent years.

"SafetyValue" solutions from Fujitsu have improved information safety and environment security in daily business operations and enhanced backup support in case of emergencies like natural disasters or terrorism attacks.

Easier life

At the upcoming forum, the company's philosophy in pursuit of environmental protection and safety management will be reflected with a wide range of IT products and services.

One is real-time multi-spot temperature detection technology that can visualize temperature distribution through monitoring heat from light.

Used in air conditioner systems, the Internet data center technology can help regulate temperature more efficiently at lower energy consumption.

Earlier technology that monitors indoor temperature in fixed locations cooled air without discrimination, resulting in cold excess and caused energy waste.

The new approach improves self-adjustment of air conditioners to make efficient use of energy.

The technology plays an instrumental role in development of energy-conserving IT solutions, the company said.

Another technological solution from the company is its computer system for commercial vehicles designed to reduce costs and increase safety and efficiency in transportation, especially vital to logistics firms.

Using its strong database processing capability, the system can help formulate efficient plans for logistics distribution, know a vehicle's location in real time, get data feedback on operational safety and evaluate business operations.

Visualizing risks

Controlling chemical pollutants is increasingly important to industrial community as a crucial element of risk management.

The e-Feins system that Fujitsu developed collects and analyzes information about air and water pollutants, visualizing environmental risks and providing support for pollution control, the company said.

Fujitsu also provides an environmental system for administrative authorities that automatically monitors water and air quality, detects noise levels and pollution sources and analyzes the data.

The system can also send warnings through short messages, voice services and text if pollutants exceed standards, pollution-control machines stop working or monitoring devices fail to run.

The system also provides records in a variety of formats including data, videos, pictures and geographic information to ensure environmental law compliance.

Fujitsu has 24-hour robot cameras in many places in Hiroshima to collect environmental information and process the data with VideoCasterPro, a multi-server computer system for integrated management.

"Our green IT solution caters to not only one company or one business environment. Our goal is to help build eco-friendly and safe cities," the company said.

Continuing commitment

Since its founding in 1935, Fujitsu has valued environmental solutions as one of priorities in all its operations.

Its green philosophy has been brought to China since the Japanese company entered the mainland market more than 30 years ago.

With technological prowess and managerial expertise, Fujitsu has forged close cooperative ties with its Chinese partners in a wide range of telecommunication, computers, software development, semiconductors and hi-tech research over the past decades.

"Fujitsu values China for its huge market growth potential," said Igarashi Takashi, chief representative of the company's operations in China.

"With years of experience, our company is dedicated to contributing to building up information network for Chinese companies and China," he added.

Beijing Fujitsu System Engineering Co Ltd jointly invested by Fujitsu and its subsidiary Fujitsu China as well as two Chinese companies, has ranked among 25 top Chinese companies in software outsourcing.

And Nantong Fujitsu Microelectronics Co, specializing integrated circuits, has begun its third stage project worth 500 million yuan in September after going public in Shenzhen last August.

Fujitsu China Forum is so far the only big forum that the company has held outside its homeland Japan, Igarashi noted.

Against the backdrop of growing worldwide environmental concerns, the topics of Internet and information safety and how to reduce emission and save energy with IT systems will be explored at the upcoming forum, he said.

"We wish to seek new business partners, expand cooperation fields and promote business modes for win-win results," he said.
