HK decorated for Olympic equestrian events

Hong Kong Secretary for Home Affairs Tsang Tak-sing applauded efforts to raise the Olympic atmosphere in Sha Tin of Hong Kong, where the Beijing Olympic equestrian events will be held, after inspecting Olympic dress-up programs in the district Tuesday.

Tsang officiated at the opening of City Art Square, part of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department's beautification project at Sha Tin Town Hall in the New Territories.

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government launched a new stage in the citywide Olympic dress-up program at the end of June, displaying 1,600 lamppost decals and 600 banners. Sculptures and public art installations designed by 19 overseas and local artists will be exhibited at the square, of which most are themed on the Olympics and horses.

Tsang inspected greening works along the roads leading to the Olympic Equestrian venue in Sha Tin, including two Olympic stone statues. He also inspected an equestrian welcome sign at University MTR Station.

"With the work and support of the Government as well as district organizations and individuals, Sha Tin's Olympic atmosphere has been greatly enhanced. This is the result of our concerted efforts," Tsang said.
