Adjust font size:

Heavy rain hit east China's coastal provinces on Saturday after tropical storm Kalmaegi swept the areas, but no casualties have been reported in the regions.

From Friday to 2 p.m. Saturday, heavy rainfall of up to 143 millimeters hit Zhejiang Province, the provincial flood control and drought relief headquarters said.

The storm entered Zhejiang in the early hours on Saturday after it made landfall Friday evening in neighboring Fujian Province.

The meteorological station in Fujian said Saturday parts of the province had reported rainfall of 50 mm. It forecast the rainy weather would continue.

The meteorological authorities of financial hub Shanghai also issued warnings that the city would had rainstorms and gales of up to 72 kilometers per hour on Saturday night.

Kalmaegi left 16 dead and 11 missing in Taiwan after it made a landfall near Ilan in northern Taiwan late on Thursday when it was a typhoon.
