China's green efforts praised

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said in Bali, Indonesia, Thursday that China's position on climate change is constructive and China has sent a positive signal to the world.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon?walks with Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to attend the opening session of the high level segment of the UN climate conference in Nusa Dua on Bali island, Indonesia,?on December 12.

The secretary-general said he held a "very constructive" telephone conversation with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on climate change before coming to Bali for the United Nations Climate Change Conference.

The Chinese delegation has been active in the UN conference, said the UN chief while meeting with Xie Zhenhua, deputy head of China's National Development and Reform Commission.

Ban said the ongoing UN climate conference "must succeed." He urged developed nations to take the lead in cutting greenhouse gas emissions and help developing countries cope with climate change.

For his part, Xie said China is willing to contribute to the success of the UN conference.

During the meeting, Xie also briefed the UN Secretary-General?on China's position on climate change,?on efforts undertaken and achievements so far.
