The Wenchuan earthquake, or the Great Sichuan Earthquake, left more than 87,000 people dead or missing. The quake lasted for around 2 minutes, leaving almost 80 percent of buildings destroyed. It was one of the largest earthquakes in human history in terms of socio-economic losses.
