The Milan Expo 2015 site will be innovative and environmentally sustainable thanks to a natural background and energy-saving technologies, an Italian top official told Xinhua in a recent interview.

"The site itself will be strictly linked to the leading theme on nutrition, 'feeding the planet, energy for life,'" said the CEO of the Milan expo organizing committee Lucio Stanca.

"The public is expected to live there a 6-sense experience amid food-tasting booths, showcase of national agro-alimentary excellences, greenhouses reproducing the world's different climates and cultivations and natural elements including water flows and green gardens."

The construction is projected to be light, flexible and modern in style. Nothing monumental but practical, efficient and recyclable. "Once we have obtained the project approval by the International Bureau of Expositions (BIE), we will launch the competition to identify who will be building it."

Stanca pointed out that the building will be made thinking of its other future uses. "We want to exploit is even once the expo is over. It will be thus built with recyclable materials in honor of the fight against climate change and environmental protection. After all, nutrition is strictly linked to a sustainable environment."

Energy-saving mechanisms are set to play a leading role in the site's construction, he added, both for heating and light.

Stanca explained that Milan expos' goal was to convey the image of an ideal living habitat, where life quality and wellness heavily depended upon the surrounding environment and food quality.

According to the CEO, nutrition is a key global issue expected to increase in importance. "Each country will be given the occasion to present its food traditions, alimentary excellences and general contribution to global nutrition."

Stanca stressed that he was looking forward to the opening of the Shanghai Expo for two main reasons: to acquire the Chinese experience and know-how, and to use it as a launch pad for the promotion of the Milan Expo in 2015.

"We do not expect to reach the same records as Shanghai, both in numbers and dimensions. But we will do our best to turn our exposition into a success, as the Chinese are doing."

He said Milan was expecting something like 20 million visitors and over 150 participating countries. "Our expo will be very different, but we will be following Shanghai's model in aiming at the highest possible result."

Stanca also said the Shanghai expo site had deeply impressed him. "Its grandeur pushes us to work hard because we must be able to keep up with the comparison people will inevitably make between Milan and Shanghai. We cannot afford to disappoint the public who has already been to China."

To spread awareness on the Milan expo 2015 the organizing committee will heavily rely upon the web and the new technologies. Appealing to the Chinese, Stanca invited them from now on to visit the official multilingual website, congratulating them for the job they were doing in Shanghai.
