CR Airways, a Hong Kong based airline company, said Monday it has applied for a license to operate passenger services to Chinese mainland.
The Civil Aviation Department confirmed the application, saying it's still processing the application made by the helicopter charter firm CR Airways.
CR Airways sales and marketing director Allan Tang said the firm is consulting with relevant departments. But he declined to say much about company's plan to provide passenger services to the mainland.
Tang reportedly said the two-year-old airlines hoped to introduce the new service by the second half of 2003.
So far, the Hong Kong-based Dragonair operates flights between Hong Kong and Chinese mainland. The other major Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific also applied for permission to operate passenger service to mainland cities.
