With the Chinese New Year approaching, Shanghai's performance market also takes on a new look. Recently, more exotic-flavoured performances are taking centre stage.
After Indian Bollywood dances, the city prepares to greet the National Dance Company of Russia, one of the top three dance companies in Russia.
The dance company will present authentic Russian national dances and works from other countries to Shanghai audiences.
Xie Yiheng from Kaisi Culture Co Ltd, one major organizer, revealed the arrangement of the programmes is innovative.
In the first half of the production, the dance company will perform wild American jazz, exquisite Irish tap dance, mystic Arabic belly dance, elegant Austrian court dance and others, aiming to dazzle the viewers with the great variety of styles.
In the second half, the dance company will fully demonstrate the essence of Russian dancing.
The organizers also disclosed that in order to stage the best performance, the dance company started to prepare its repertoire six months ago.
The total crew of the company will reach 85 persons, including the eminent cast.
The dance company will bring over 1,000 costumes with them.
Xie said, "We have overcome the transportation challenges. All the stage properties and costumes will occupy three container cars."
