Shanghai residents can look forward to sunshine with slightly higher temperature over the next several days, meteorologists predicted yesterday. But they also warned that a cold air mass may blow chilly winds to the city at the weekend.
"Under the control of a stable high pressure system, clear sky is likely to prevail through next four or five days in the city," said Dai Xinfu, the city's chief meteorologist.
However, a cold front from northern China and a low pressure trough may bring rain and temperature will fall at the weekends, he added.
Today's high is expected to be 6 degrees Celsius, 1.1 degrees lower than yesterday's, according to the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau. The low could be 3 degrees, unchanged from yesterday's.
Residents may have a sunny holiday on New Year's Day on Wednesday, with a high of 7 to 8 degrees Celsius and a low of 3 degrees Celsius, meteorologists forecasted.
This week's average temperature may hover around 6 degrees, while the extreme low could reach 1 degree below zero, probably at the weekend, the bureau reported.
Dai cautioned that people should still be careful and wear warm clothes since it's still the winter season.
